Amazing and definite recommendation if you're visiting Costa Rica. Managed to do the hiking trail to the Lava Flow summit and saw lots of wildlife and lush greenery along the way. The hiking trails are a little steep and uneven so decent hiking boots is a must.
The biggest disappointment ever in Costa Rica. Too expensive just to see the volcano view a teeny tiny closer than in town............. What a waste of $15 pp and a waste of time........... Skip this especially during the rainy season. We waited almost an hour there to see a clear view of the volcano but nope - too cloudy.
When visiting Costa Rica Arenal volcán ID a must. Don't miss La Fortuna and Tabacon. Many sport activities available as canopy rafting trekking biking etc.
Beautiful! It does rain a lot (it is the rainforest)
ey chav, 'a boy over ere hadn't 'ad a good time innit. look a proper roadman eeeeeeeeeee
Get lost in this dense rainforest. Worth a hike to see the waterfalls, hanging bridges and the volcano itself. Wrap up with a detox in the hot springs. Makes you feel like you've lost 10 years on your age. Cateful now, its not a miracle cure but it does wonders.
Great visit. Hike lasted 2.5 hours.
Glorious views of Arenal Volcano taken May 2019.
went on a fantastic tour today. amazing experience
The 3.5 hour drive each way was a total beatdown. Spectacular volcano but wouldn't do it again if it was free.
I was 5 when i went to costa rica and now im 11 when i went to the valcano i took a taxi because i was little and it would have made me dizzy if i hiked unfortunately out taxi driver had. A heart attack so we had to go down quick while i was up there though i saw the inside of the valcano, it was exhilarating to see, wjen u was on my way down i opened the window and i got to touch the clouds, when i tell people that now they rarely belive me but it is nice to tell even if they dont belive me, it was a nice and beautiful area and i could see it from my hotel and it was very nice to go here.
Trails were great, saw lots of wildlife and great views of the volcano. There is an entrance fee but as long as it’s going toward protecting the area it’s worth it. The Ceiba tree was huge and the volcanic rock overlook was awesome. Pictures do not come close to showing you how amazing the view is and how massive the volcano is. We did see many unique birds including toucans and other animals too!
Definitely worth the visit! Arenal is situated in a lush and beautiful landscape. It's Costa Rica! Duh! You'll repeatedly find yourself scanning the treeline for raptors and t-rex. :) Please don't bring plastics or non-vegan items *. Leave the place in equal or better condition as you found it; otherwise, don't come at all *. *(This goes for everywhere in the world.)Enjoy! :)
If you are reading this, then you know it is a pretty place. Arenal is an exceptionally gorgeous place if you are into nature, hot springs and hiking. What you need to know is that Arenal is a quite expensive place. The food and all attractions are almost the US price. Just keep that in mind before planning your trip. And....the mosquito bites could be very unpleasant.
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Costa Rica a few decades ago, although the tourism industry was not very well developed back then. The industry has grown significantly since then, and Costa Rica, the "Switzerland of Central America" (la Suiza Centroamericana), has come a long way from the sleepy, agricultural land it once was. Over two million tourists a year come to Costa Rica — mostly from the US, Canada and Europe — an incredible number, considering that the population of the country itself is just shy of 5 million.
Stayed for three days at la fortuna at a hostel, had to go for arenal volcano for sure. We decided to rent a car and go straight to all the hikes and activities, to avoid all the middle man charges and commissions. Went for boat tour around the volcano and hike to lava trail. Would recommend to team up for boat tour with local/ foreign tourists and ask for consolidated price than individual rates.
Took a tour to Arenal Volcano hike in the afternoon session. The walk itself is not really difficult. This volcano hike is not on the Volcano itself. It's only to the viewport. Along the path, we saw few snakes and passed by filming location of Jurassic Park and a Will Smith movie. It's not our best hike but neither a worst
A nice place for nature tripping. We decided to avail the trek around the volcano with the hanging bridges for two and half hours. The wheather is very nice. A great way to connect with nature.
A beautiful little town and great people
Hike was pretty cool but the highlight was hot river. Ask how to get there. Will not regret;)
- Expensive place to visit ( home stay and food )- If you are interested in Hiking this place has various treks to offer.- there are couple the mirador view points, you can choose which ever you want, would advice you the Hiking view point, and not the lake view point. - Overall expensive place with very less things to offer.
Such an awesome place! A must see when visiting CR. If you do the Arenal 1968 reserve (not the National Park) you’ll find far less crowds and amazing views.
Absolutely beautiful! We came during the beginning of the wet season and it couldn't be a more perfect time! It was warm and sunny morning thru to 3pm then light rain for the night and everything was freshly green and fresh the next morning!
It should be called Fortuna Paradise, can’t wait to go back! 💋♥️
Amazing active volcano.
Go on the hike! It can be pretty rocky at some parts so one should go with proper shoes. Beautiful views as well.
This place is cool erupted
Pretty cool volcano that can be seen from various points in La Fortuna. You can hike it yourself, especially if you have a car to drive to the entrance. Alternatively, you can take a tour. The hike itself isn’t hard unless it’s raining hard and for a long period of time.Usually there are clouds on the top of the volcano, yet wait a bit and they might go away.
Stunning views of this place. Captivating views of cascading waterfalls from the mountain top, from the melting glaciers. Surrounded by tall palm and other trees adds to the natural beauty of this spot. Nice forest views offering rich resources to the locales. The best place for family weekend picnics.
Awesome volcano to visit if you're in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, the mountain is normally covered in clouds during the peak season. If you're lucky, you'll get to see some of the higher slopes of the mountain. If you go to the national park trails, you might get a better view, but the mountain itself can be seen from some surrounding hotels.
Beautiful location with great views of the volcano and seeing the 400 year old tree is inspiring
Love this volcan during a period where volcan was very active say 1995 not sure exactly i left the main road around tabacon and walked down a dirt road toward the vocan it was getting dark so I started setting up my tent first came sheet lighting then bugs came out with bioluminescents like a fire fly but i have heard they something different next came magma exploding down the mountain and traveling all the way to the botton less than one half mile from my well situated camp site i watched f for hours before falling asleep. Yes what i did was risky and somewhat dangerous but what a introduction to arenal fred. Still here
You will have a better view of this mountain earlier in the year but I was week satisfied with the views that I experienced. Please remain aware that this is an active volcano so heads up! Check the USGS site and you will see that this area is shaking every day.
Very fun hike! If you plan on hiking the Arenal Mountain, carry water, a poncho, hiking shoes, waterproof/dry-fit clothes, and definitely check the weather so that you can see the volcano and not just cloud cover
Beautiful volcano which you can see throughout all of La Fortuna. Unfortunately it is closed for hiking because it is still in activity and has a very moving landscape with a definite risk of avalanche. Climbing it has been defined by some as "a suicide mission", and only "really really crazy people" would think of doing it.
this place is amazing, seeing and touring the volcano plus hiking the rainforst is beautiful. Nice town with tons of restaurant choices. Would like to have stayed longer to enjoy the hot springs.
I stayed at the Arenal Springs Resort & Spa, bungalow style accomodation with its own hot spring fed swimming pools & fine views of the volcano. Just a lovely part of the world, abundant flora & fauna & lovely people.
Absolutely beautiful. The vegetation is amazing, my favorite volcano in costa rica.
The vulcano isn't active anymore. It's a nice view, furthermore it's great for hot springs and nice trails.
Wow its so pretty and I cant believe that I got to to go to vacation her so I could see this volcano
Didn't see the volcano that day. Still something to do.
Great hiking. You can feel the heat of the volcano right through the soles of your shoes. There are plenty of other options for hiking in the area, including a seldom visited caldera.
Really beautiful place and walking the volcano is the best if you can handle the terrain, and is the only way you can see the water falls.
Spent one night and wish it could have been a longer stay. Our suite has a magnificent view of the volcano. It is well appointed with a hot tub no less. The air was 10 degrees cooler than on the coast which gave us much relief. The staff is very pleasant and easy to understand. If you love nature this is a definite destination. It has it all.
Beautiful place. Grabb a cup of coffee and enjoy the view.
The entire area is a tourist trap. Everything is overpriced. The area is scenic and the volcano is very impressive. But the weather is unpredictable and it costs money to do everything. Im still unsure why this is so popular.
i love it bacas it is beteful im a kid doing a math progitok so i just love it so much
Beautiful volcano with the city of Fortuna close to it. The views are spectacular.
The volcano is interesting. We were able to see it so we got great pictures. We were on a tour. We were picked up in San Jose. The tour included arenal and a hot springs. It was a long day, too much in the van driving. I would recommend staying near the volcano and enjoying all the activities.
Staying nearby this volcano we were able to really be in awe of its power and force. It made every view seem like we were in Jurassic park lol all of the locals know the history of the volcano and the times it has erupted and the aftermath. The volcano created a hot spring in our resort we were able to enjoy as well. We hiked as far as we could by foot and horse.
